The MERGE is not the final destination for Ethereum protocol!

At ETH CC, Vitalik Buterin explained the long-term roadmap of Ethereum with 5 key phases: The Merge, The Surge, The Verge, The Purge & The Splurge.

Successful completion of these 5 key phases is important for Ethereum & blockchain space as this will support mainstream adoption. But what are these 5 key phases?

The Merge: This upgrade will transition Ethereum from PoW to PoS
The Surge: Introduction of Sharding to Ethereum
The Verge: Optimisation of storage & reducing node size via verkle trees
The Purge: Reduces the hard drive space requirement for validators eliminating historical data.
The Splurge: Miscellaneous smaller upgrades that support smooth functioning of network & prior 4 stage improvements.
